The man behind "The Norwegian Method"

For over 30 years, Frank Evertsen has been at the forefront of endurance training, blending science, innovation, and hands-on coaching to create one of the most effective training systems in the world, the famous The Norwegian Method.

His unique combination of performance coaching, myofascial therapy, and sports massage has helped everyone from Olympic athletes to everyday runners move better, recover faster, and perform at their peak.

From Athlete to innovator

Frank began as an athlete, driven to understand what truly makes training effective. In the mid-1980s, long before “double threshold” or lactate-guided training, he was already testing new ways to structure endurance work, studying European and American methods, and translating Eastern European research that challenged the era’s over-reliance on high-intensity training.

Pioneering the Norwegian Method

By the late 80s and early 90s, Frank had conducted thousands of lactate threshold tests, finding that training just below the anaerobic threshold allowed higher volumes without excessive fatigue.

This “sweet spot” became a cornerstone of The Norwegian Method: controlled intensity, increased volume, strategic double threshold sessions, and altitude training for maximum adaptation.

"Train smart. Recover well. Perform better."

From Norway To Kenya

In 1991, Frank began traveling regularly to Kenya, spending over 15 years studying and working with some of the world’s best runners.

He saw first-hand how elite Kenyan athletes combined massive aerobic volume with carefully controlled intensity, a philosophy that perfectly aligned with his own findings.

Frank didn’t just observe, he actively coached, introducing athletes to new training structures and helping several launch successful international careers.

His work bridged worlds, bringing Kenyan principles back to Norway and adapting them to suit both elite and developing athletes.

Pioneering the Norwegian Method

Frank’s coaching career has included national record holders, world-class track runners, and endurance athletes across multiple disciplines.

He worked extensively with Marius Bakken, introducing him to lactate-guided training, double threshold sessions, and altitude camps in Kenya. Bakken went on to set Norwegian and Nordic records, and the blueprint of his training later influenced the famous Ingebrigtsen program.

Frank’s impact reaches far beyond one athlete, his principles have shaped the way endurance training is done in Norway and inspired athletes worldwide, from the United States to Japan.
